Protected: I HATE running

I hate running with a vengeance and when the retarded gym teachers decide to force us to run the mile after a month of nothing, it makes me so mad. Why the fuck do they do that! Sure the mile may be state-mandated but do you seriously think forcing kids to run a mile in under X amount of time will inspire them to reach their athletic potential? I think not. If anything it would turn those who are somewhat interested away from exercising in general.

Anyways, lately, I have been worrying a lot about running so I decided to do a bit of research on the topic and I came across some very interesting articles. One similarity between the vast majority of them was as follows:

Running SHOULD be fun and enjoyable

Now for some reason, being forced to run the mile to pass gym seems to contradict the above statement. It may be just me, but I think the way they’re doing it now takes any remaining fun from the activity and WILL turn the majority of kids off from the activity forever.

On a lighter note however, the next gym units should be fun, (its all things I like!)

  • Volleyball
  • Bowling
  • Archery
  • Floor Hockey
  • and then weight room:shock:

I am such a hypocrite

I never said I would, but I did. I settled for a premade layout =\. Usually I would “attempt” to make my own, but lately I’ve been out of idea for layouts (and frankly too lazy to do it anyways). With that in mind, I used a modified K2 template which was being used on waah.co.uk. I’ll be doing some editing and I’ll try not to make a habit of it, but I guess what they said about 11th grade was true— it’s the most stressful/hardest year of High School. Only ~3 Months left!!!

Anyways, I’m tired beyond belief and must sleep.

Wow!

I am so amazingly happy! First off, the second semester started yesterday and my classes are amazing!

Period 1/2A – Gym
Period 1/2B – Chem Lab
Period 3/4 – Chemistry
Period 5/6 – Algebraic Trigonometry
Period 7/8 – Lunch/Activity
Period 9/10 – American History

First off I have Mrs. Steigerwald, for chemistry, she’s so nice and the class isn’t too hard…so far, but from what I’ve heard, she makes it fun.

Then for Algebraic Trigonometry, I have Mr. Cook, he seems a bit eccentric, but cool and he makes the class easy to understand and it goes by so quickly.

Then finally, for American History, I have Mr. Vanzile. The class goes by so quickly and it doesn’t even seem like we are working!

Aside from the idiots I am forced to be with all day, my classes are pretty good, and I have my 7/8 lunch back! (I hate eating at 10).

And now for the best part:

I got a 100% on my English 11 Final Exam!!!! 16 pages on The Scarlet Letter and its critique of Society. Then I got a 97% on the Regents. I am kind of upset about the grade, but that furthermore proves I am an English Snob. :D :D :D

And more for egotism, Mr. Gaylord, my English teacher last semester said I was probably the top student in the class! :D

Anyways, what goes up, must come down… and now I will go enjoy my “ha-ha I beat you” attitude, until something goes awry and things go back to normal. :P

You can NOT live without it!

Anyone who uses WordPress needs this plugin, it is the Twlight: AutoSave plugin. A cookie is created while you are typing an entry, and then when something goes wrong and your mile-long entry is gone in a flash, Twilight: AutoSave has your entry stored within a cookie which is accessible for a week (long enough to go back in and save it!)

Anyone ever mess with Movable Type? Rose has had been talking, (well writing about would be a better way to state that) about it, so i decided to mess with it today. BAD experience. First off, It took quite a long time to get the program (I guess thats what it would be called) installed, then running. Then I attempted to export the database from wordpress and import it. Guess what! It didn’t work. I’m quite content with wordpress, but I am still interested in Movable Type. If anyone knows of a tutorial or walkthrough of how to convert wordpress posts to MT posts, please share with me.

EDIT: I already know about MikeT of Codemonkeyrambling’s tutorial. It failed to work for me.

Anyways, on a more non-techy note, I am half-way through finals week. I was able to finish my speech, and managed around 8 minutes in length (pretty good without using notecards). Tomorrow, Friday, and Monday are the days I am dreading the most. Spanish finals, days of preterite, imperfect, subjunctive, and perfect past tenses and then future, subjunctive, imperfect the oh so wonderful tenses of the present and future! I am dreading it. I was planning on taking Spanish V and VI next year, but I’m not too sure anymore, considering my poor ability to remember tenses, but luckily I can understand and somewhat speak and write it.

Out of curiosity, which of these appeals to you more?

Ciara's DogRobby's Dog

The one on the left is our families dog, Sasha, and the dog on the right is our my sister’s friend Robby’s dog. There was a poll on MyYearbook and Sasha won by close to 83%. I just want to see if the same views hold true elsewhere.

A week later and I’m…

DONE! :D

The stupid essay that I spent forever working on is FINALLY done. 17 pages of The Scarlet Letter and Nathaniel Hawthorne. I can’t lie and say I enjoyed working on it—because I didn’t. In fact, I have a vast majority of my stuff done and the rest of the semester should be smooth sailing.

As for finals, heres the crap they’re making us do

Spanish IV

  • Speaking – 5 situations
  • Grammer
  • Translation
  • Writing
  • Listening

English

  • Final Essay (Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter
  • Final Speech
  • Listening & Essay
  • Regents (23rd and 24th)

Note Taking

  • Finish Notes
  • Finish Worksheets on Theory
  • Finish Makeup Dictations
  • Final Exam, Wahoo! Monday

Drawing and Painting II

  • Finish Billiard Balls in Oil
  • Finish Rose in Oil
  • Finish Judy Garland in Acrylic
  • 100 word essay – EASY!!!

So the next week shouldn’t be too bad, but I will actually have classes when the next semester starts. Instead of

Pd 1/2 – Spanish IV
Pd 3/4A – Note Taking
Pd 3/4B – Gym
Pd 5/6 – Lunch/Activity
Pd 7/8 – American Literature
Pd 9/10 – Drawing and Painting II

I will have

Pd 1/2A – Chemistry Lab
Pd 1/2B – Gym
Pd 3/4 – Chemistry
Pd 5/6 – Algebraic Trig.
Pd 7/8 – Lunch/Activity
Pd 9-10 – American History

Should be a nice change, but It’ll take some getting used to. I’m a creature of habit.

Currently in Freak out Mode

The semester’s almost over and like I thought, the workload has suddenly increased. This weekend, a five-to-seven page essay on Nathaniel Hawthorne and The Scarlet Letter. It’s not that bad, but the fact that it determines whether or not you get out of high school increases the stress factor. Right now, I have three pages done and I’m not even half way done with the essay yet. I just want it to be over!

So, I am off to smash my head into something hard, (then finish my essay  )

stressed

BSOD

I swear, my computer doesn’t like me anymore. For the last couple days, its been working fine, then I start to work on this layout, and I get the dreaded… BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. It said that my local webserver has crashed, and windows will recover following a restart.

I restarted, but then wouldn’t you know it, it decides not to turn back on! So I quite annoyed at that point, turned it off, and stomped away. I went and cleaned my room a bit and came back a little while later, still didn’t work. Finally after leaving it alone for a couple hours, it turned back on, but was being kinda weird. I ran a defrag and all the other stuff you supposed to do, hopefully its fixed… I don’t have the money to go get it looked at in depth.

GRR. I hate it when programs/computers that are working fine suddenly decide to turn on you. I swear, the creators of Murphy’s Laws and the computer people have some evil conspiracy to make my life miserable…

Tomorrows the last day of volleyball and I have the strangest feeling we’re running the mile tomorrow, we’ll see. Should be interesting with my newly discovered shin splints. I don’t even get to pick what I do in gym for the next unit, its a mandatory, Fitness For Life. Joy!

SSDD

Ok, so things have been somewhat uneventful lately. I seem to have fallen into a rut…

  • Wake up. Eat breakfast go to school.
  • The wondrous School Crap. (Spanish, Note taking or PE, Lunch, English, Art)
  • The Even better bus ride home (Nothing better than being crammed by people who smoke/don’t bathe).
  • Come home, eat my leftover breakfast, pass out

Now you see my point :P

Anyways, I’m looking forward to Friday, I’m going to New York City with my art class. Should be interesting. We’re heading to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art. It should be a lot of fun (minus the getting up at 5:00 to catch the bus at the school at 6. :\ Oh well.

I plan to take tons of pictures (allowed in The Metropolitan Museum) and around the city!

Only downside to all this is Thursday. We have to run The Mile for gym. Kinda sucks, but what can you do?

<RANT>I SWEAR I’M GONNA LOSE IT IF THE PHONE DOES NOT STOP RINGING!</RANT>

Come next Thursday, I get to go see Don Quijote with my Spanish IV class. I get to miss an entire day (Periods 1-10) which will be pretty cool! I can’t wait. Hopefully this rut will vanish. :P

Happy Friday The 13th!

I’m not generally superstitious, but today was HORRIBLE!

First off, I woke up late, so I was rushing around this morning. After rushing to get ready, I ran to the bus (and almost missed it). I arrived at school and went to spanish, it went fairly well, but I kept making stupid mistakes. On to notetaking, I realized I forgot my stuff for the class, and of course the day I forget it, we need it. Luckily, my friend Megan let me use her book and Mrs. Sisti (my teacher), didn’t freak out at the fact that I forgot my stuff.

Next I had lunch/Activity. I helped Megan make some Halloween Party invitations in MS Word and when I went to get a pen, it exploded. The ink was really sticky, and when soap was added, it turned purple and would NOT come out!

English followed and he decided to give us a pop-quiz on vocabulary words. Instead of it being normal “give the definition” style, it was write a sentence using it exactly as it is given. The words we had were…

Literal
Figurative
Denotate
Connotate
Potentate

I was able to get literal and figurative, but I completely drew a blank of Denotate, Connotate, and Potentate, and because there were only 5 words, each was 20%, always good to miss 60% on a quiz!

Finally it was time for art, so close to the end of the day! For about a week and a half I have been working on a charcoal still life. Today I was working on it and I messed it up. The shading was really bad and the teacher wasn’t too happy =\

When school was finally over, I rushed outside, caught the bus and came home. I then heated up my leftover rice and fell asleep and woke up at around 8 to say goodbye to my grandma and aunt – as they are going to Myrtle Beach.

Sorry if this post seems kinda mopey, but today sucked… seems to be a pattern lately… Oh Well :P

The Power of Negative Thinking

Wow, don’t worry, I’m really not as bad as that makes me sound…

Anyways, today was one of those days where EVERYTHING (and I mean everything), that can go wrong WILL go wrong. Let me start at the beginning (which in my case would be last night). Following my orthodontist appointment, I came home and figured I’d take a half-hour nap and then work on my homework. So around 5:30, I layed down, and the next thing I knew it was 6:00 AM. I had slept through and forgot to finish my homework. So I rush around to get ready and “attempt” to get the homework done. Rushed to catch the bus, and there were no seats. Great!

I soon arrived at school and just as period 1/2 started, I finished. We went over it, and I had gotten most of it wrong! (I guess that’s what I get for rushing). We then took a quiz on the homework and because I rushed, it did poorly on it.

The next period was gym; inline skating for this unit. I went to the one set of gym doors an it was locked. So I rushed to the otherside, and it was locked as well. When I finally got in, class was just starting. She took attendance and we went outside. Myself, following those in front, went into the wrong set of bleechers, and when we finally made it to the correct set, it was getting cold, and starting to sprinkle. I put my rollerblades on (wrong foot first!), then did some stopping/going drills.

Lunch/Activity followed. I made a new notebook for spanish (<sarcasm>so amazing isn’t it!</sarcasm>). While in there, we found out about the schools new policy of locking the doors and that anyone caught without their ID would get an S.O.S. (School on Saturday). Of course, the one day I forget my card at home, they decide to implement this!

The next period for American Literature, I was in the library, and of course, we were required to sign out books, and since I forgot my ID card, I couldn’t sign out a book. YAY.

Art went ok. I worked on my charcoal drawing, and by the time I was done, I managed to get charcoal on my face. Of course it wouldn’t come off!

Caught the bus and came home, and now off to bed, I mysteriously have a headache. Oh well.

And for those of you wondering about the title, its from a Murphy’s Law article at Wikipedia.

‘Murphy’s Corollary of the Power of Negative Thinking: “An optimist is never pleasantly surprised.”‘
