You know you’re nerdy when you go to a website and an overhaul makes such a huge impact. I went to the B-52′s site to redownload a wallpaper (so it wasn’t chopped off) and was shocked at the page. I was expecting to be greeted by this “less-than-flattering” layout:

but much to my enjoyment, this layout was there instead:

Now honestly, which one looks better? The second one without question. It’s been almost two years since a layout has made that much of an impact on me—and in fact this is the first “professional” layout to do so.

Not surprising, I have very little going on worth the effort to “blog” about so you can probably skip this entry and move on to something more interesting.

Anyways, I have been working at Best Buy since late July and despite its negative connotations among the geeks of the world, I have to say I enjoy it. I started off selling computers but lacked the, erm… <del datetime="2008-12-10T04:53:22+00:00">immorality needed</del> <ins datetime="2008-12-10T04:53:22+00:00">confidence</ins> to sell the service plans. I was then moved to receiving (and came close to quitting). Finally, two days before Black Friday (November 28) I was moved to Administration (checkout and returns). I do admit I like it better up there and thankfully I didn’t take the rash action of quitting.

Now some of you may be wondering what the hell happened to Dunkin Doughnuts, well simply it was the most tedious and irritating job I have EVER had. Nothing better than being screamed at for too little (or too much) sugar or cleaning up puke in a parking lot.

As for college, I am in my last week of this semester and I am looking forward to being done with my classes for a few weeks. Overall I am doing well with my lowest grade being around an A-. My only issue is attendance, <sarcasm>surprisingly driving 20 miles to class every day got old, who would’ve thought!</sarcasm>. Next semester I managed to get most of my classes online so I should have the attendance issues… hopefully.

And finally, I managed to get Zeisu (you know, the project I was working on for a couple years, killed and restarted numerous times, and generally bugged the shit out of people with) to a working state. The irritating Beta page is gone and registration—through openID and username/pass—is open. Feel free to play around and <del datetime="2008-12-10T04:53:22+00:00">attempt to destroy it</del> <ins datetime="2008-12-10T04:53:22+00:00">look for holes</ins> and report them to me. Also be sure to post any features you’d like to see.

And before I get a rush of emails, I am well aware that the last thing the world needs is another social network, but give it a try. The amount of customization should be to your liking.

So that about sums up the last few weeks, or months rather. Now lets see if I can get back into the habit of posting more than twice a year…

Anyone who uses WordPress needs this plugin, it is the Twlight: AutoSave plugin. Anyone ever mess with Movable Type? Rose has had been talking, (well writing about would be a better way to state that) about it, so i decided to mess with it today. BAD experience. First off, It took quite a long time to get the program (I guess thats what it would be called) installed, then running. Then I attempted to export the database from wordpress and import it. Guess what! It didn’t work. I’m quite content with wordpress, but I am still interested in Movable Type. If anyone knows of a tutorial or walkthrough of how to convert wordpress posts to MT posts, please share with me.

EDIT: I already know about MikeT of Codemonkeyrambling’s tutorial. It failed to work for me.

Anyways, on a more non-techy note, I am half-way through finals week. I was able to finish my speech, and managed around 8 minutes in length (pretty good without using notecards). Tomorrow, Friday, and Monday are the days I am dreading the most. Spanish finals, days of preterite, imperfect, subjunctive, and perfect past tenses and then future, subjunctive, imperfect the oh so wonderful tenses of the present and future! I am dreading it. I was planning on taking Spanish V and VI next year, but I’m not too sure anymore, considering my poor ability to remember tenses, but luckily I can understand and somewhat speak and write it.

Out of curiosity, which of these appeals to you more?

The one on the left is our families dog, Sasha, and the dog on the right is our my sister’s friend Robby’s dog. There was a poll on MyYearbook and Sasha won by close to 83%. I just want to see if the same views hold true elsewhere.

I swear, my computer doesn’t like me anymore. For the last couple days, its been working fine, then I start to work on this layout, and I get the dreaded… BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. It said that my local webserver has crashed, and windows will recover following a restart.

I restarted, but then wouldn’t you know it, it decides not to turn back on! So I quite annoyed at that point, turned it off, and stomped away. I went and cleaned my room a bit and came back a little while later, still didn’t work. Finally after leaving it alone for a couple hours, it turned back on, but was being kinda weird. I ran a defrag and all the other stuff you supposed to do, hopefully its fixed… I don’t have the money to go get it looked at in depth.

GRR. I hate it when programs/computers that are working fine suddenly decide to turn on you. I swear, the creators of Murphy’s Laws and the computer people have some evil conspiracy to make my life miserable…

–

Tomorrows the last day of volleyball and I have the strangest feeling we’re running the mile tomorrow, we’ll see. Should be interesting with my newly discovered shin splints. I don’t even get to pick what I do in gym for the next unit, its a mandatory, Fitness For Life. Joy!

A few months ago, I decided to try http://www.despair.nu. After a few months of commenting on sites that take hours to load, and text thats extremely small, I have come to the conclusion is sucks. I will now give you my reasons.

1. Your’re forced to comment every 2 days. After you comment, others don’t, which basically defeats the purpose of the site.

2. You get comments that don’t relate to the post at all. For example, from my “Nerd-like Rantings” post, I recieved this comment, which barely relates to my post.

I hate plugins. I just don’t bother with them really 0____o
Stupid Despair tells me to comment you when you have a blog that is seriously hard to comment on! Meh.

To be honest, I don’t give a shit if its hard to comment on. I see that because I don’t “whine about my hair style and “Gasp” I think So and so likes me” it magically makes my posts hard to comment on. I mean, I’ll be honest, some of my posts aren’t exactly easy to comment on, but if you can’t think of anything, comment on another post, or don’t comment at all. It’s that simple.

3. People come, read 1 entry, comment and leave. What is the point of this? You put a lot of time and energy into making a site, then people come and spend 3 minutes skimming an entry, leaving a shitty comment and leaving, never to look back.

Now is the time where I could go into how sites your suppossed to comment usually include a HUGE header image (for example, on one site, the image was 900 X 612px and the site took 8 minutes to load. Its a bit much, and I only stayed because I was required to by the commenting site.

The site itself is run fine. Albeit the moderators don’t exactly moderate all the time, but its expected with 300 active sites. The idea though is kinda iffy. Force people to comment in hopes that others will stay. This like many ideas may seem (or have seemed) good on paper, but in real life it doesn’t work.

*I apologize if I offended anyone with this rant, but its all true.

Ok, this post is mainly for the nerds among us. (Normal people, feel free to leave).

Anyways, have you ever noticed how fast the web changes? Like a few weeks ago, I attempted to install guestblock, because it seemed cool and some other sites had it on. So after messing around with it for a couple hours, I gave up and deleted it. Come to find out a few weeks later, while searching through my hosts help section, they said how to install the PEAR application I needed. Excited, I go to find the script, and its GONE! In a matter of weeks, a seemingly popular site disappeared off the face of the earth.

Then today, I decided to install a poll script for wordpress. After searching through WP-PLUGINS, there were 2 scripts. I downloaded one, and it gave me tons of errors. Then I downloaded democracy, the other poll plugin, and its admin panel didn’t work! Come on, 2 scripts and neither work! So, I’ve given up.

Thats about it for my nerd rant…. and now to some happier, but still nerd-like news.

Starlet FINALLY changed her layout. Its not long pink with a flower-looking thing anymore!!!!

And finally, If you’re bored and looking for somthing to do, be sure to check out SILLYISH and JEMJABELLA, 2 very interesting sites (for the nerds and nerds at heart!)
