“Do what tastes right?!” (yeah right!)

It’s official. I quit Wendy’s. I have to say it was easily one of the worst experiences of my life. Albeit, there were some good points, the bad generally outweighed the good.

First off was the fryer. When I started, I had envisioned working ANYTHING but the fryer. Of course thats what I was put at. I didn’t really want to complain, so I put up with it. At first, everything was fine. It was still spring and it wasn’t insainly hot out. But then came summer. 100 degree weather working over a 400 degree stove… not fun at all!

Then the managers — nevermind. I’m not going to go there.

I was lucky enough to get a job interview for Subway (like I had last summer). Thinking I bombed the interview, I was bracing myself for a life in hell… er I mean grease-ville. But after a few days, I surprisingly was offered the job. Thinking sub-making wasn’t for me, I went in to try it, and within the first day, I did nearly 3 times as much as I did at Wendy’s and the time went by so fast! So last Sunday I put in my notice that I was quitting.

Hopefully, my co-workers at Wendy’s won’t think poorly of me, but something better came along. :)

I just want to sleep!

Its 4:07AM. For the past week I haven’t been able to sleep at all. I think in total I have gotten about 8 hours of sleep (in 4 days…). I just want to be able to sleep again. :bawling: :cryingeyesout:

Over the river and through the woods…

Today I learned a lesson that everyone, whether they want to or not, will inevitably learn. This lesson of course is “taking a shortcut isn’t always the best way.” Anyways, my little trip began around 7:00pm. I’m sitting in my room reading wikipedia, and my sister walks in and asks if I wanted to go on a walk/hike with her and the dog. Not having anything better to do, I agreed and went and waited for my sister to get ready. This trial as I found out was at a nearby dam, and my sister, not wanting to walk the dog near the highway asked our mother if we could get a ride.

Of course, she said no. The idea of walking through a field across the street from our house came to my mind and we started on our hike. Through the field we went, the dog going nuts and chasing after moths and butterflies. The hill which I believed was the dam came closer and closer and we began our ascent.

Upon reaching the top, we were horrified to find it wasn’t the dam at all, but another 3 fields  So we began walking again and when we came to the final field, which unlike the others we had “trespassed” on thus far, it actually had a crop of some sort growing (Corn I think…). So not wanting to walk through a field thats producing, we looks for another path. The nearest was a leftover from someones 4-wheeler run. We walked down the hill and of course the creek was there. The dog of course runs in and starts splashing around, but not wanting to be wet, my sister and I try our best to avoid it. After a while, my sister asked, “Can we just stay here.” Myself, thinking the dam was rather close by, said, “No, lets keep going. I know were close.”

All of a sudden the dog runs up a small hill and we were on a road which led to the dam. I was amazed that I was actually right. We walked for a bit (finally on a hard surface, not wet dirt), we saw the road ended with a barbed wire fence. Not wanting the dog (or ourselves) to get sliced up, we walked off the road and into another field. Come to find out, this field was a swamp and we immediately sank in, getting soaked. But our quest soon came to an end, the dam was just a head.

But as Murphy’s Law states, “anything that can go wrong, will go wrong—at the worst possible moment.” Thinking we avoided the barbed-wire fence, we ran towards the dam. But of course, the fence was there, but taller. Not wanting to go through again, we crawled under. Upon arriving at the dam, we let go of the leash and let the dog run. Up and down the hill she ran and without getting tired. My sister and I on the other hand, upon reaching the crest of the hill, we were exhausted; and we weren’t even near the hiking trail.

After resting for a little bit, we called the dog and began walking to the trial. It was rather strange, as we walked through the path, the dog seemed to know exactly where we were going as she ran ahead. We finally made it through the path and we let the dog swim for a bit.

We then began our long walk home. But this time, wanting to avoid the swamp and other obstacles which plagued us during our first trip, we walked alongside the highway (albeit at the bottom of the ditch which runs alongside the highway, keeping in mind this ditch is at least 10 feet deep and 4-5 feet wide. We walked and walked, and my sister not wanting to get the dog as far from the highway as possible (I can’t blame her), saw a trail which still ran alongside the highway, but on the other side of the ditch. Thinking it was going to be the safest way to get the dog home, we walked along it.

A horrible scent soon filled the air, up ahead was a flattened deer. How could a deer be flattened at least 10 feet away from the highway! Disgusted, my sister ran from the deer and we continued our walk back home in the ditch as we were. Soon we saw the bridge which led to our street, excited the dog ran towards it (obviously she recognized it). As we came nearer and nearer, my sister and I realized our shortcut wasn’t really a shortcut at all. In fact, it took us at least 5 times as long to make it to the dam through the fields. Taking the highway took us about 10 minutes and it was probably a mile walk home from the dam.

I felt quite stupid afterwards, but at least I’ll know which way not to go next time. :P
